Let there be light

Candles are among the most commonly used altar pieces in ritual work, symbolising the transformative power of light in darkness. Representing the element of Fire, the flame’s glowing energy awakens inspiration, infusing rituals with movement and Spirit.

Candles can also be used for scrying or gazing, as the flame acts as a portal to visions, deepening the state of meditation and enhancing spiritual connection.

Aside from their magical uses, a candle holds a deeply sacred presence that transforms the energy of a room. Its gentle, flickering flame creates a sense of warmth and intimacy, inviting moments of reflection and connection. The soft glow has an almost meditative quality, calming the mind and grounding the spirit. A candle’s light has an undeniable power to shift a space into something more sacred.

It's hard to feel alone in a room with a lit candle.

Because of their connection to Spirit, I’ve always believed the quality of the candle is so important. As is the method in which it was created. Which is why I adore the candles at The Sacred so much.

These stunning candles are handmade in Nimbin, NSW, by a family-run Australian business with over 45-years of experience in the craft of candle making.

In an age where traditional methods are increasingly rare, this dedicated family keeps the art of candle making alive by producing non-toxic, traditionally crafted candles. The taper candles are crafted using the method of dipping the wicks continuously to produce a perfect taper. Such methods are similar to what you would have found in 11th century monasteries when most candle making was produced by monks.

They use only the highest-grade paraffin wax, the same wax used in food processing (not semi-refined paraffin which is the cheapest wax available and what is commonly used by candle makers – this is toxic).

The dyes used are vegetable dyes, the same used in batik art. The wick is unbleached Australian cotton.

You can breathe easy knowing these candles have been laboratory tested and have been proven to be a nontoxic candle.

NOTES FOR USE:

  • Due to the natural nature of the dyes used, continuous exposure to bright lighting will eventually fade the colour– however, this I believe only adds to the charm. And I will take this over toxic chemical dyes any day.

  • As the tapers are hand-dipped, sizing can slightly vary. If the bottom is too big for the candle holder, I always lightly melt the bottom with a flame. The soft wax then squishes perfectly into the candle holder ensuring it’s safe and secure.

  • Always place pillars on a small tray for any wax that may drip or expand.

  • Because of the sneaky nature of any flame, never leave a candle in a room unattended. - But you already know that. x
